ARNOLD MARTIAL ARTS FESTIVAL PARA MARTIAL ARTS COMPETITION

Regulations

  • PUI Adapted Martial Arts rules for all styles (guidelines available upon request).
  • The tournament sponsor reserves the right to combine or change any group of events when appropriate.
  • Competitors must wear a clean martial arts uniform of their style. Toenails and fingernails must be trimmed short.
  • 1st, 2nd, 4th and 4th place winners will receive special awards. Awards in all divisions.

Forms:

  • All competitors may perform forms of their choice.

Sparring:

  • Flag Sparring Systemv will be used for those that cannot meet body Sparring requirements.
  • No body contact in sparring matches, contact to the body results in disqualification.
  • Two-minute, five point system, five full points or ten half points wins the match.
  • Wrapped bandages, braces, or metallic adhesive devices may not be worn.
  • A mouthpiece and groin protector is mandatory in all matches. Chest guards are optional.
  • Safety gear is mandatory in all matches.
  • Safety glasses with a restraining band will be allowed. Other types of eyewear are not acceptable.

Iaido (Swordsmanship) / Weapons (Short and long weapons) divisions:

  • Long weapons division: Staff, Oar, and any other weapon longer than 4 feet.
  • Short weapons division: Kama (no live blades allowed), Nunchaku, Tonfa, Sai, and any other weapon shorter than 4 feet.
  • The staff must be one fist taller than the competitor and be made out of solid hard wood.
  • Loss of control of weapon in competition will be grounds for disqualification.

Demonstrations:

These divisions may be musical forms/weapons or self-defense related. Demonstrations may not exceed 4 minutes in duration.

A unique division to express your uniqueness in performing your art form!

Demonstration Divisions (PD1, PD2 and PD3)

Here’s your chance to show your take on all the martial arts that you have learned. Add to that your artistic flare and your showmanship, and you or your team can take away this special trophy. You can choose to do a self-defense choreography in PD-3, or an empty hand form in PD-1, or a weapons form in PD-2. You may perform in any of these divisions with or without music.

Rules and Regulations Concerning Demonstration Divisions

  1. Number of participants may not exceed 6 persons.
  2. You must complete a special Team Demonstration Division Registration Form and everyone must sign it.
  3. You must provide your own music or mats if needed.
  4. Performance time may not exceed 4 minutes maximum.
  5. You need not wear a martial arts uniform, but all participants must wear a minimum of a sleeveless or leotard which covers the torso and midriff, and pants or dance tights which at least cover the body area from the waist to the knees.
  6. The use or display of any firearms, model or replica of any firearm – whether or not capable of firing – is strictly prohibited.
  7. No dangerous flammable substance may be used, including live flames, pyrotechnic, or other such explosive devices.
  8. No items or objects may be utilized which may damage or mark flooring or mats.
  9. Any music used for background and accompaniment must be free of offensive or abusive lyrics and contents.
  10. Teams may be comprised of male and female participants and may include juniors.
  11. All performances must be appropriate for viewing by a general audience, which will include children under the age of ten. The tournament officials may at anytime limit the participation in this division, or deny entry to any performance, which they deem to include inappropriate language, portray graphic violence, or themes, which are contrary to the spirit of good sportsmanship of the martial arts.
